Electric power steering for vintage vehicles
Electric Power Steering for Pre-War Vehicles: A Major Innovation Finally Available
We are pleased to announce that one of the latest technical challenges posed by pre-war vehicles has been brilliantly overcome: the integration of electric power steering while retaining all original steering functions.
A Unique Challenge for Pre-War Vehicles
On many pre-war models, mechanical controls — accelerator, pre-ignition, damping, lighting, fuel mixture adjustment, etc. — directly pass through the steering shaft. These functions are managed using a stator tube, responsible for keeping the controls stable while the steering wheel turns. Inside, there are often several concentric tubes rotating simultaneously to ensure all adjustments.
Technology Adapted to Hollow Steering Shafts
To integrate electric power steering into a steering column, a hollow shaft is essential. This required the complete creation of a new compatible system. This innovation not only concerns pre-war cars, but also some newer models equipped with a hollow steering shaft.
Kits or Complete Columns: A Custom Solution
We offer this system in the form of a conversion kit, accompanied by adapters to install the unit in the original steering column. For several iconic models, we also provide a complete replacement column for optimal installation.
Renovation of the Original Steering Box
In most cases, it is possible to retain and refurbish the original steering box if it is in good condition. We conduct a thorough inspection and offer a revision service if necessary to ensure a reliable and durable conversion.
Over 130 Vehicles Already Equipped
To date, over 130 pre-war vehicles have been equipped with this innovative technology. Among them:
- Bentley Vintage & Derby
- Rolls-Royce Phantom
- Cadillac V16
- Packard
- Lagonda
- Alvis Speed 20 & 25
- Mercedes 540 K
This advancement marks a significant milestone for historical vehicle enthusiasts looking to enhance the comfort and maneuverability of their car without compromising authenticity.
